Cult Expert?… Millikan’s Integrity In Question

by Desiree Delaloye, Goonellabah, NSW, Australia

What happened on the evening of the 12th October 2012 at the Universal Medicine – Esoteric Medicine presentation in Lennox Head was deeply disturbing to me as a paying audience member, a human being and as an Australian citizen.

David Millikan, a so called ‘expert on cults’ had asked to speak with the audience in attendance under the guise of openly researching our lifestyle choices to expand his insights and gather material for a book that he claims to be writing.

Millikan spoke with Serge Benhayon before the event, claiming that he was interested, and open, and willing to hear everyone’s views and understanding, when all along all that he was truly interested in doing was not reporting any truth, but fabricating his next big ‘Cult Bust’ explosive TV show to boost his reputation as a leading ‘expert’ in the field. There was not one ounce of true interest in exploring why we would be interested in attending a presentation by Serge Benhayon. Just an arrogant and calculative Millikan setting up an ambush to film us – a group of people, including some under age youngsters – with hidden hand-held cameras in the hall and large TV cameras and studio lights positioned outside the entrance, surrounding the building, and even positioned on the rooftop! And all this to create the footage they needed to make the TV show look so-called ‘exposed’, sensationalistic and emotional.

But instead, if anything, the room was stunned by the fact of Millikan’s utter falseness, underhandedness, cunningness and such deliberate misinterpretation for the sake of self-glorification. You have to have experienced it to know that this is not just a scene in a movie, but has actually become the practice of the Australian media landscape.

So here is what had happened: Millikan gets on stage and chats with Serge, introduces himself as a Minister of the Uniting Church and cult specialist. He then turns to the audience and with a flick of a switch, raises his voice, points his finger and puts on a show for the hand-held cameras that have suddenly popped up in the audience.

He had chosen young women to do his dirty work and film the proceedings. I am sure this was done very deliberately as they blended in more easily in a room of local people where many knew each other.

But they did certainly stand out. They had been asked respectfully, over and over to stop filming as they did not have permission to do so – but like robots they kept walking and at times rushing around the room. Millikan on stage kept raising his voice accusing us of being a cult and posing questions and issuing statements that contained as many ‘out-there’ words as he could possibly put in one sentence – very obviously constructed for the cameras. He then proclaimed, “Why aren’t you answering”?

Well, THE FACT IS – he wasn’t interested in our answers, he did not give us a chance! When asked if he will be making money out of all this, he admitted to be on the payroll of a well-known Television Station and thus giving away that he is even more un-trustworthy, as he had not disclosed this information in the beginning. In his ranting-on he put on a show that was obviously scripted to cut a so-called ‘catching story’.

He finally left the building, due to the fact that he did not get from us the hype that he was looking for, but then, outside the hall he continued filming for the wrap-up of the show.

The enormous gaping hole in regard to the lack of integrity or decency in our media has stunned me completely. It hits home so much more deeply when experienced first hand. These TV shows are set-ups and their intent is not innocent, nor unbiased. And this is called ‘entertainment’?

Shame on David Millikan for calling himself a man of God and behaving in such a harm-full and denigrating way. Lecturing down on people as if it was the 12th century.

An important question to consider would be – what is it about our life-style choices (read our blog – Truth About Serge Benhayon or Truth About Universal Medicine) that people like David Millikan are not willing to look at and consider normal?

Making aware choices about our lifestyle doesn’t make us brainwashed, it makes us individuals… And last time I checked, this is what a democracy is about.

  1. Lifestyle choices is one of the biggest killers or illness and disease. If illness and disease has increased dramatically what lifestyle choices are humanity making? If you truly take the time to investigate UniMed students you will see we are going against the trend. Instead of approaching us a cult approach us as a group of people leading the way.

  2. When we look at how simple life can be and The Students of The Livingness are in the process of understanding and developing simplicity in their lives one has to wonder why such an attack happens and what energy they are calling in to try and down-play a simplistic life styles of so many?

  3. When images govern your movements, the only thing you want is to confirm them even if what is in front of you does not. In truth, you do not care for what is standing in your face, you only want to feed the bubble you live in and whatever means is valid to do so. This is your true expertise.

  4. So much of our media, the vast majority is deeply corrupt and we buy into it, for the truth is, the media supplies the entertainment that we demand, so we all have a part of play here in where we’ve come to, that people in a so called free western democracy can be harassed at a gathering to discus their life style choices that they have freely chosen to be at … this is crazy and the thing is it’s only until we or those close to us experience this that we truly begin to consider what we’ve allowed. It’s a wake up call for us all.

  5. Disgraceful behaviour from David Millikan, his actions were aimed to put the audience down and to create a sensationalised story void of truth. Shouting, yelling and pointing fingers at people is abuse to me and this is in no way an acceptable way to approach anyone, regardless of their religion or beliefs. No one deserves to be spoken to in an abusive way. Thank you Desiree for exposing the ill behaviours of David Millikan.

  6. So called ‘cult’ experts are a bit like hunters. They have to show others their catch to get social recognition. That is why when these these ‘experts’
want to establish themselves in that trade, they are capable of doing whatever it takes to have something to show to others. It does not matter how you got it, or actually it does matter. The more outrageous the better.

  7. This little episode certainly proved to be an exposé in the end . . . . as it exposed just where the media is at. It dispelled all illusions that there was any decency to be found as instead of true reporting we have an entertainment racquet with a predetermined script .

  8. This disgraceful hijack of the meeting revealed the truth and depth of integrity shown by Serge Benhayon and Universal Medicine as the audience felt the deliberate abuse directed at the love and brotherhood of the gathering.

  9. This was a shocking and atrocious act, and yes, ‘Shame on David Millikan for calling himself a man of God and behaving in such a harm-full and denigrating way. Lecturing down on people as if it was the 12th century.’
    Bring back true democracy.

  10. After that event that night I experienced a true democracy. We all gathered close together and expressed our feelings and emotions. All our voices counted no one was less. All Universal Medicine events are like this. Everyone is equal and we are all encouraged to be all of us. I have not experienced this outside Universal Medicine.

  11. It is almost laughable when the differences between mainstream religion and The Way of the Livingness are considered. From the dogmatic and controlling way of organized religion to being given support to clearly make your own choices in how you live your life, one begins to wonder which one is harming us most.

  12. Indeed a shocking state of affairs that ironically didn’t ‘expose’ anything except the underhanded behavior of those willing to sell out their journalistic integrity, let alone their common decency, for a story that had to be manufactured by them in the first place. Crazy stuff.

  13. ‘Making aware choices about our lifestyle doesn’t make us brainwashed, it makes us individuals…’ Exactly, how can making aware choices about the way you live ever be a bad thing? When over a quarter of the population have long term health conditions and the health system is reporting that people need to start making better choices when it comes to their health.

  14. “An important question to consider would be – what is it about our life-style choices (read our blog – Truth About Serge Benhayon or Truth About Universal Medicine) that people like David Millikan are not willing to look at and consider normal?” A good point Desiree. A democratic country entitles people to choose to live their life-style – that doesn’t harm others. I would suggest that the lifestyle chosen by Universal Medicine students is an inspiration as to how life can be lived – definitely not to denigrate – as Millikan did during that shocking evening. The many blogs written by those in attendance that night tell the facts as they witnessed it – the truth of the sabotage of the evening by Millikan et al – all under false pretences.

  15. “There was not one ounce of true interest in exploring why we would be interested in attending a presentation by Serge Benhayon. Just an arrogant and calculative Millikan setting up an ambush to film us – a group of people, including some under age youngsters – with hidden hand-held cameras in the hall and large TV cameras and studio lights positioned outside the entrance, surrounding the building, and even positioned on the rooftop! And all this to create the footage they needed to make the TV show look so-called ‘exposed’, sensationalistic and emotional.” Truly shocking Desiree. I agree with you “Shame on David Millikan for calling himself a man of God and behaving in such a harm-full and denigrating way. Lecturing down on people as if it was the 12th century.”

  16. Thank you for sharing Desiree. This sort of behaviour should be written and re-written about ( as it has). As to show the people say there is no place for ruthless and demeaning journalism.

  17. I can imagine the outcry if someone went and disrupted a church service being run by David Millikan yet he had no qualms about his self serving attack on people attending the Universal Medicine event. No one deserves to be treated with such a shameful lack of integrity and respect.

  18. Democracy is based on equality. It is also one of the foundations of Universal Medicine. Maybe the forces that fight Universal Medicine and Serge Benhayon are against true Democracy?

  19. Thank you Desiree for so clearly describing the events that took place and exposing David Millikan true motivation and lack of integrity – a definite attack on free will.

  20. I agree with you Desiree. I was present that evening and witnessed David Millikan’s behaviour. To me, it felt like he was putting on a show that was scripted to make a so-called ‘catching story.’ The theatrical way he played up to the cameras felt to me an act of pure bias, simply to feed media sensationalism. To me this definitely calls David Millikan’s integrity to question. Great blog.

  21. How rude is that… an act that lacks any human respect and decency. It seems like the scenario was set up to make Universal Medicine look bad by giving everyone a surprise of sudden voice raising and cameras appearing… that’s very low, I would expect much higher standards from someone who considers himself ‘a man of God.’

  22. Whatever we do in life, it is not the same whether we do it with integrity or not. Integrity is about holding oneself and others at the same level; integrity is about truth with no an ounce of manipulation. That night there was one person and team that abused the integrity of the guest speaker and the audience.

  23. Thank you Desiree, for such a great article, I wasn’t there , but from your article I can feel just how abusive and deceptive this situation must have felt to all present. Especially from a man claiming to be a man of God .

  24. Awesome, thorough and completely to the point Desiree. It is about choice and choosing the way of living that works best for you. That is the real story.

  25. Absolutely Desiree, I totally agree and was indeed ‘stunned by the fact of Millikan’s utter falseness, underhandedness, cunningness and such deliberate misinterpretation for the sake of self-glorification.’ It was reprehensible. This is not how I would have ever expected a ‘man of God’ to behave.

  26. Thank you Desiree for your post here which has given me a deeper and clearer insight about what happened that night. As you say you have to be there to have felt the experience of what actually went on.
The media have a lot to answer for and making TV shows purely for entertainment value is now losing its sell by date as people are not dumb and can feel when others are being harmed just to get some sensationalist story. We the public have woken up and will not roll over and accept what the media are doing.
We need to question when David Millikan – a Uniting Church minister claiming to be a ‘cult expert’, is paid by a TV station to get a story without getting any real facts from the audience and filming them without permission.

    1. As you say Bina, to have someone on the payroll for a TV station raises all sorts of questions… and in my experience they only keep you on retainer if you keep on delivering – so David Millikan has to walk away with a story no matter what, or else his ‘job’ is under threat. Forget being a man of the cloth (which, to me, he has shown no indication of), this is a cold hard commercial reality which fits the disgusting way that I feel people have been treated in this instance.

  27. You’ve painted a strong picture Desiree. Thank you for providing the image for those who weren’t there on the night. It is important for them to “get the picture”.

  28. It is astounding that this raid (which would not look out of place in a dramatic movie) has happened in real life in the peaceful beach-side settlement of Lennox Head, NSW.
It’s no wonder ‘the room was stunned by the fact of Millikan’s utter falseness, underhandedness, cunningness and such deliberate misinterpretation for the sake of self-glorification’ when he put on such a show for the cameras.
He sure set everyone up by using his initial and seemingly innocuous approach as a Minister of the Uniting Church.

  29. Yes so absurd to know that this actually happens to good people. How can we trust the media that is there to present the so called ‘truth’!?
    Well said Desiree

  30. A great summary of the evening, correct, accurate and truthful! I remember walking out to the car and making a comment about how surreal it all felt and how weird it felt to be outside and to actually digest that yes this is Lennox Head, Australia and it is the year 2012.

  31. Thank you Desiree, you have managed to capture what many people felt on the evening, as well as sharing our true response.

  32. Thank you Desiree for sharing so clearly what happened at the meeting. There is so much of loving support for you all which all has come out of all this craziness. Love is the way and nothing can stop it!

  33. Thank you for the detailed account. Perhaps the media crew should have sat in the audience of Friday nights’s presentation, listened to Serge speak, and spoken to the people attending before beginning their antics. They may have realised they were within a group of people working towards a way of living where they took after themselves, treat their bodies with respect, heal their hurts and live with love in their lives.
Instead it seems they tried to catch universal medicine out doing something suspicious and wrong. How crazy has our world become that to live how we live is something to be persecuted, ridiculed and criticised..

  34. There is nothing and I repeat nothing better than hearing somebody saying it just how it is, no fluffs, no emotions, just pure Truth – Thanks a lot Desiree.
I felt tremendous sadness that you all had to experience this shocking behaviour by ‘a man of God’ of all people, which is really more typical of the 12th rather than the 21st century.

  35. Desiree, thank you for your truthful expression of what is happening in the media world in Australia concerning Universal Medicine and all it presents.
Reading all the blogs about the media’s sensationalism in regards to Universal Medicine, and all who choose to live a life of truth and brotherly love is quite alarming.
It seems in todays world most media representives are more interested in getting points/ratings no matter how desperately they go about it. Plus all that sit and read and watch these horrific presentations with anxiousiousness gives rise to more of the same.
Do any of these reporters/camera persons realise that someday the role will be reversed, One day when they don’t expect it some one will stick a camera in their face and have no interest in hearing their side of what truly is happening just because it is news of any kind to get ratings.

  36. Thanks Desiree for giving your first-hand account of the events of 12 October 2012.
I want to HONOUR and show my APPRECIATION for Serge and the Australian Unimed Student Body for the way in which they conducted themselves in Truth, Love and Brotherhood in the face of such an unprovoked and malicious attack on their basic human rights to come together to listen, share and support each other.
You have been such a wonderful reflection and inspiration to us all going forward now.
I love and support each one of you and as a Student Body we know that ‘The Truth’ we have come to know and feel will reign forever because it is WITHIN us ALL.

    1. Beautifully written Anne. You have said what I would have liked to have put into words, thank you. Desiree has given us the feeling of being there, the shock of it all and how the media can manipulate events. I too feel a sense of brotherhood and support for those who were there and the student body as a whole.

  37. Well said Desiree. Thank-you. We WERE “stunned” – a sense of shock that a supposed “man of God” would behave so, and also shock at being ‘set up’ as ‘players’ in what can only be described as a very sick form of entertainment indeed – not one iota of true journalistic integrity or ethics present whatsoever. I was there, and yet your accurate account has helped open my eyes further to the FACT that nothing was sought on the part of Millikan/the TV crew, other than to create an intense civil disturbance – yes, upset and insult deeply inquiring and caring people, and get ‘film’ of such a maliciously planned situation. To all those in the planning – I ask you, where is your humanity?? Absolutely disgraceful, and I will never ever see such antics as anything remotely resembling ‘journalism’ or indeed true religious inquiry, again.

    1. Hear, hear Victoria, I absolutely agree. This kind of behaviour and ‘journalism’ is abuse and completely void of respect, integrity and truth. I feel this kind of journalism will not last too long because I know a lot of people are keen to connect to truth.

  38. When I read about what happened at the presentation, it feels like we have gone backwards to the Dark Ages, and yet here we are in 2012. What that says to me is that in some ways, we’ve never gotten out of the Dark Ages, that this kind of stuff has been going on all along and we were/I was either unaware of it or chose not to see it, or both. It’s really quite appalling and shocking, and sort of unbelievable. Is this really how we choose to treat one another???? How did we learn that the kind of behavior showed by David Millikan is ok????

  39. Thanks Desiree. That the real question to be asked. What is it about out lifestyle choices that people are so upset about? Why do they get so reactive to the fact that we choose to care for ourselves deeply? Your story exposes not only the media but also where humanity is truly at that this is the type of sensationalism that people will watch.

  40. Tthanks Desiree for sharing your experience of the events of last week. It does however give us great insight into how the media work and the deliberate manipulation, deceit, lies etc they are prepared to go to in order to get ‘a story’ irrespective of whether there is any truth in the story! Truth is irrelevant it seems to the media these days.

  41. Absolutely Desiree, the way you write is fantastic and very true and exposing. You put it out there, it is not right at all what have happend on Friday the 12th of October. Fact: that David Millikan abused the whole audience with his accusations and lies (to all the men, women and teenagers) on this very night. This is not ok and it needs to be said.
    Thank you Desiree.

  42. I have just read the last four post about the intrusion and attack by David Millikan and his crew. Thank you Susanne, Deborah, Elizabeth and Desiree for letting us know what happened. It is very saddening to hear of the underhand, scheming and intention to hurt with which Millikan’s planned attack was devised. It is totally understandable how those men, women and children – who had come for the Esoteric Medicine presentation on Friday, must have felt the full force of both Millikan’s verbal assault and the invasion by the hidden camerawomen. I am not surprised that many have been stunned and deeply upset by an assault which held total disregard to any measure of basic human decency.

  43. Thanks for your post Desiree. The more posts I read (as I was not there myself), the more a picture of the evening presents itself, and the more I become aware how disgraceful the behaviour of David Milikan and his film crew were in their attempts to capture on film the footage they had deliberately set out to get ‘in advance’. Shame on them and shame on the media organisation that they represent. This is certainly not representative of any type of reporting that has integrity or that can be called honest and truthful. I fully support your last comment “Making aware choices about our lifestyle doesn’t make us brain washed, it makes us individuals… And last time I checked, this is what a democracy is about”. Well said!

  44. An important question to consider would be – what is it about our lifestyle choices (read our blog – Truth About Serge Benhayon or Truth About Universal Medicine) that people like David Millikan are not willing to look at and consider normal? Great question Desiree, thank you. Why are they not willing to look at and consider that we are now simply choosing to make healthier lifestyle choices. I have no idea how choosing that, makes us brainwashed devotees/ cult followers ?
