The Gentle Breath Meditation™, Being Gentle and ‘Doing the Right Thing’

I have been a Universal Medicine (UniMed) student for about 5 years and since that time I have been doing the Gentle Breath Meditation™. For such a long time I thought I had to do the Gentle Breath Meditation™ to connect to myself. Now I can truly feel that by choosing to breathe gently everything else stops, and I can straight away feel myself, my true self. This has shown me that this beautiful warmth that I feel inside when I stop is always there. Essentially I don’t have to do anything to get to it, I just have to choose it. The Stupidity of Thinking about Things Twice

Just lately it has become so clear to me how much of my life I waste by thinking about things over and over again.

What I realise now is that I only need to think about a task when I am doing it, rather than multiple times before and after. For most of my life I have thought about what I am going to be doing this afternoon, or tomorrow, or next week, in an exhausting way. And if that’s not enough busy-ness, I can also worry and think about things that I have already done… over and over again.

Bringing Self-care to Dentistry: 7 Steps to Returning to Love

As a student dentist I geared myself up with hope that upon final graduation I would become confident and secure within myself. I believed that success and ease would be the natural outcomes of all the hard work I’d done. I had achieved great success as a student by pushing and driving myself: what I did not grasp was that my developed patterns of self-neglect and anxious drive had become an entrenched and normal way of operating.

The picture of ‘perfection’ I had formulated was so narrow it would hurt me for many years to come. I made life about getting everything ‘right’. Without that, I did not feel like a worthy member of the profession, or indeed a worthy human being.

Sexual Assault, Sexual Abuse and Creeps… Statistics and My Story

Accusations of sexual assault are extremely serious and should never be taken lightly. The statistics that follow clearly show that sexual assault, sexual abuse and sexual violence are currently major issues in modern society.

  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men are abused before the age of 18 (Fergusson & Mullen. 1999).
  • 1 in 5 women and 1 in 20 men have experienced sexual violence since the age of 15 years  (Australian Bureau of Statistics, Personal Safety Survey, 2005).
  • 93% of offenders are male (National Crime and Safety Survey, 2002).
